Atlanta Dream sells out 2024 season tickets

The Atlanta Dream is sold out of season tickets, thanks to record high demand.

Why it matters: The Dream is the second team in WNBA history to sell out their season ticket allotment after the defending champion Las Vegas Aces sold out last month.

Driving the news: All eyes are on the Dream team after the team made the playoffs last season for the first time in five years. The upcoming season begins May 14.

  • The Dream team said on social media that they experienced “unprecedented demand” before the single game ticket presale went live on Sunday.

State of play: The team said in a press release that they saw their largest single day of ticket sales that day, with five games already sold out in Gateway Center Arena.

  • As a result, the team implemented location restrictions to prevent brokers from buying large quantities of tickets. Only residents in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, and North Carolina can buy presale tickets.

The big picture: Interest in women’s basketball is at an all-time high thanks to Caitlin Clark and a wave of new young players coming into the league.

  • The Dream recently drafted forward Nyadiew Puoch and guards Isobel Borlase and Matilde Villa. It’s planning to let the three 19-year-old international rookies play internationally rather than bringing them onto the court this soon, 11Alive reports.

Of note: The Dream also announced last Friday that they’ve signed guard Taj Cole, guard/forward Elizabeth Balogun, and center Khaalia Hillsman to training camp contracts.

What they’re saying: Dream President and COO Morgan Shaw Parker said in a statement that excitement around women’s sports, particularly basketball, is at an all-time high, and “nowhere is that felt more than here in Atlanta.”

  • “We’ve continued a record-setting growth trajectory over the past three years under new ownership — both on and off the court — and 2024 is shaping up to be our best season yet,” said Parker’s statement.

What’s next: Single tickets for all remaining games will go on sale at 8am Thursday. The team’s first ever waiting list for future additional season tickets is already underway.
