Aurora police, including the department’s SWAT unit, engaged in a standoff with possible armed subjects Thursday afternoon.
Aurora police first notified the public of the incident at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday. The standoff is at a motel at the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Chambers Road.
Police said at least three subjects, possibly armed, were barricaded inside the motel. At about 2:20 p.m., police said two of the suspects were detained, but at least one person remained inside the motel. Police said the suspects were related to an armed carjacking with shots fired that happened Wednesday.
Police said a negotiator is on scene to try and bring the incident to a peaceful resolution. As of about 3:20 p.m., five people had been detained, police said.
All parties had been accounted for and the barricaded status had been lifted as of 4:15 p.m. Thursday, the department added.
The standoff is the second in Aurora in as many days. On Wednesday, officers arrested a 17-year-old boy after he allegedly threw homemade explosives at officers responding to a call at his residence near Gatrell Road and C-470.
That boy also allegedly stole his parents’ car and drove it erratically and at a high rate of speed Tuesday at Cherokee Trail High School. He allegedly struck multiple other cars during that incident, police said.
The boy was arrested after he surrendered without incident following a standoff lasting several hours.
