DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, Brooklyn (WABC) — Police in Brooklyn confiscated what officers believe to be millions of dollars’ worth of cannabis.

At a warehouse on Adelphi Street in Downtown Brooklyn, NYC Sherriff’s Office and officers saw products that they regularly confiscate in many of the illegal smoke shops across New York City.

A joint investigation by the NYPD and the NYC Sheriff’s Office were alerted of the warehouse operation when responding to a burglary in progress on Friday night, where they made several arrests inside the location.

They uncovered a warehouse full of suspected unregulated cannabis being sent from overseas and then distributed to smoke shops across the city.

“One little package of edibles is 50 dollars and the money that’s made from the sale of these untested, illegal products is mind-boggling,” said NYC Sherrifs Office Commanding Officer Maureen Kokeas.

The millions of dollars’ worth of illegal THC products ranged from gummies, THC flower and pre-rolls – all packaged for distribution. The colorful packaging is designed to get young children eating gummies and smoking weed.

“It’s just scary that kids can get, you know, tricked into consuming those things,” said parent Khadine Barakat.

A City Hall Spokesperson released a statement Saturday saying,

“Thanks to the hard work of both the New York City Sheriff’s Office and the NYPD, we conducted one of the largest operations against a cannabis distributor to date, seizing millions of dollars worth of products, including edibles, vapes, pre-rolls, and more. Through ‘Operation Padlock to Protect,’ we have already sealed over 200 illegal smoke shops, and today, we tackled a major distributor supplying these shops with products threatening the safety and health of our communities, particularly young New Yorkers. We are continuing to investigate the incident.”
