Indiana head football coach Curt Cignetti announced Tyson Brown as the program’s director of athletic performance on Friday (Feb. 6).

Brown comes to Bloomington after two seasons at UConn that featured back-to-back appearances in the Fenway Bowl and program-best 18 wins over the 2024 and 2025 seasons. During his time in Storrs, Connecticut, Brown helped UConn reach back-to-back bowl games for the first time since 2009-10.

He led the Bulldog football strength and conditioning program for four seasons (2020-24) which netted three-straight bowl appearances from 2020-22 under head coaches Mike Leach (2020-21) and Zach Arnett (2022). The Bulldogs were 2-1 in those games and won nine games in Leach’s second season – its most since 10 winds during the 2014 season.

He spent six seasons at Washington State with two as the head of the strength and conditioning program (2018-19) and four as an assistant (2014-17) for Jason Loscalzo. In his time with Leach, Brown helped the Cougars to five straight bowl appearances, 46 wins and four top-3 finishes in the Pac-12 North.

Between 2017 and 2018, Brown was hired by Cignetti at Elon, but Loscalzo left for the NFL, opening the door for Brown to remain in Pullman and lead the Cougars’ strength and conditioning efforts.

Brown spent one year as associate director of strength and conditioning at USF (2013) and two seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Washington (2010-11). He spent one year each as an intern/graduate assistant with the NFL’s Houston Texas (2010), Baylor (2009) and his alma mater, Sioux Falls (2008).

A native of Bothell, Washington, Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Sioux Falls where helped the Cougars to the 2006 (player) and 2008 (strength coach) NAIA National Championships.

Brown also holds a master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and owns his certification from the USA Weightlifting organization.

He and his wife, Kinzie, have one son, Brody, and two daughters, Bella and Briar.
