The 2026 NHL Draft is fast approaching. Round one kicks off next Friday, and although the team has come a long way in year one under head coach Marco Sturm, Don Sweeney’s work is far from done when it comes to building a championship roster.
Sweeney and the Bruins front office made a trade on Thursday to obtain more selections in next week’s draft.
The Bruins have traded the rights to Boston College Eagles captain Andre Gasseau to the San Jose Sharks along with the 120th overall selection. San Jose sent Boston the 104th and 157th overall picks in return.
The Bruins drafted the BC forward in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
Gasseau went on to play all four years with the Eagles after being drafted. He finished his BC career with 43 goals and 66 assists in 131 total games.
Gasseau had previously stated that he planned to explore free agency when he becomes eligible to do so this August. His trade does not prohibit him from doing so, even after San Jose gave up a pair of picks.
Sweeney and the Bruins turned an uncertain situation into more draft capital just days away from the draft.
