Can I Go Back to Colombia?

Colombian-American producer Tasha Sandoval remembers the Colombia of her childhood: lush with mountains, lively with family, and juicy with fruit. But her memories there were short-lived as her parents moved to the United States, where Tasha stopped rolling her Rs well and learned to reject her difference.

But as an adult, a growing desire has been blooming in Tasha, a longing for Colombia. In 2024, she moved back to Bogotá to reconnect with family, home, and her Colombian roots. And she’s not the only one—some members of Colombian and other Latin American diasporas in the U.S. are also seeking out connections to their ancestral homelands.

Tasha takes listeners through a day-in-the-life of her return to Colombia, from the grandeur of the Andes mountains, to reconnecting with family. Through conversations with her dad and her cousin, she reflects on family history and on the complexities of diasporic identity. All the while, she meditates on a question: What happens when you try to go home again?

Note: Audio for this episode will be available on Sunday, April 26, when it drops across all podcast platforms.
