CANTON, New York (WWNY) – A downtown Canton business owner was arrested and his store shuttered after he allegedly sold cannabis illegally.
Police Chief James Santimaw said that a search warrant was executed at the 71 Main Street business called the Canton Convenience Shop.
The owner, 23-year-old Hakim Saleh of Hamtramck, Michigan, was charged with unlawful sale of cannabis, third-degree unlawful possession of cannabis, both misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of cannabis, a violation.
Santimaw said the warrant was based on several complaints that the store was selling cannabis to juveniles from 12 to 18 years old.
Seized were about $6,400 and around 680 grams of cannabis, including vape pens, raw cannabis, cannabis wax, and edibles.
Santimaw said the state’s Office of Cannabis Management secured the business and is not allowing any access.
Saleh was ticketed and released. He is scheduled to appear in Canton town court next month.
