Allen, 33, spent the 2024 season with the Bears, who acquired the six-time Pro Bowler via trade last offseason. Allen’s lone season in Chicago offered solid production — 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns — but the Bears ultimately decided to let him hit free agency after supplementing Caleb Williams‘ rookie campaign with a sure-handed veteran.

The Chargers’ plan at WR in 2025 hit a road bump when Mike Williams — another reunion who signed during the offseason — announced his retirement before training camp.

That left Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey as the top targets for quarterback Justin Herbert as camp began. The Chargers drafted Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith in April, adding to an already young WR corps littered with second-year players and undrafted free agents. Jalen Reagor stands as the most experienced veteran in the room.

A reunion in L.A. makes sense for both parties and it figures to be a seamless one considering Herbert and Allen are familiar with each other.

Over four seasons, the Herbert-Allen connection produced 380 receptions for 4,125 yards and 25 touchdowns. Their best season together was their last in 2023, when Allen caught 108 balls for 1,243 yards and seven TDs in just 13 games.

Allen is one of 13 players remaining on Gregg Rosenthal’s Top 101 free agents list for the 2025 season.
