MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Christian Brothers University is looking to move to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
The move would be a shift back to NAIA from NCAA Division II, where CBU has competed in since 1996. Prior to that, CBU spent decades competing in the NAIA.
CBU has officially applied for membership into NAIA’s Mid-South Conference, and would begin competition there in the 2027-28 season with approval.
CBU expects the NAIA to approve its membership later this month.
CBU says the conference is better for a school its size, and cites that similar schools have made the same transition and grown in number of student-athletes.
Scholarships, rosters, academic programs and financial aid will not be impacted by the move.
