From the Continental High School Facebook page on December 12, 2024:
Congratulations to CHS Spanish Teacher Vanessa DaCorte for being honored by the State of Ohio’s Latino Affairs Commission as a recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan Award!
Mrs. DaCorte received her award and recognition at an awards luncheon on Tuesday, December 10 at the Statehouse in Columbus.
The following is Mrs. DaCorte’s bio from the program:
Vanessa DaCorte is a clinical psychologist with 16 years of experience in therapy, evaluation, and higher education as a university professor. In 2018, she embarked on a transformative journey from Venezuela with the aspiration of mastering the English language.
Mrs. DaCorte commenced her professional engagement with the Educational Service Center of Springfield, Ohio, where she served as an educator, mentor, and translator for newly arrived Spanish-speaking individuals grappling with their academic responsibilities. She provided support in various school-related matters, including accompanying families to court, assisting in hospitals, and addressing community needs. Additionally, Mrs. DaCorte assisted local psychologists with assessments for Spanish-speaking students and participated in IEP meetings with parents. This enriching experience led to the establishment of a Spanish language position at the Springfield-Clark Career Technology Center, prompting Mrs. DaCorte to pursue her Spanish teaching certification.
Mrs. DaCorte is in her third year as the Spanish teacher at CHS, where she is committed to supporting students and providing them with a unique perspective on Latin and Caribbean cultures.
