Black Events LA (BLK Events LA) organized their monthly Community Walk on Saturday, November 9, to promote Dubb’s Organic Coffee, in the city of West Hollywood owned by Wali Muhammad. The event, spearheaded by BLK Events founder Jocelyn C Chambers, drew about 50 people and highlighted the importance of patronizing Black-owned businesses in Los Angeles.

“Our Community Walk Series supports a Black business in different neighborhoods across the city,” said Chambers. “We’ve done West Adams, we’ve done Jefferson Park, Leimert Park—all different spots—to get the community out, to explore neighborhoods where they live, and neighborhoods where they may not live, and support the businesses that are there, whether people know about them or not.”

The Community Walks aim to connect residents with Black-owned businesses across Los Angeles. This month’s focus was Dubb’s Organic Coffee at 7962 Fountain Avenue, but the event also cross-promoted other Black-owned businesses like Harmony Couture, a vintage fashion boutique, G Tacos, and Illusions Tea.

The walk, a two-mile journey through West Hollywood, started on Fountain Avenue and traveled along Orange Grove, Sunset Boulevard, and Santa Monica Boulevard before returning to Dubb’s for a lively afternoon of music from a DJ, tacos, and community fellowship.

West Hollywood City Manager David Wilson and Public Safety Commissioner Tod Hallman joined the event.

“Everyone loves these community walks,” Chambers added. “I’ve had so many people make friends from these walks, and they come back to support these businesses consistently. It’s a wonderful way to build community and spend time with people in the daylight.”

Muhammad expressed gratitude for the support shown by Chambers and BLK Events. “The turnout was great,” said Muhammad. “I feel like the partnership with Black people in LA was amazing. Jocelyn has gone above and beyond. I’m happy and very grateful.”

He invited the local West Hollywood community to visit his café and try something new. “We’re a five-star café,” Muhammad said. “We’re the only five-star café in WeHo, so please come check us out and find something new that I think you’re going to like.”
