(bright music) – It is one of the nation’s largest farmers’ markets with more than 300 vendors and thousands of visitors.
The Salt Lake Downtown Farmers Market supports small businesses and community growth.
Here to share what’s new this year is Carly Gillespie.
Welcome, Carly.
– Hi, thank you for having me.
– So tell me about some of the delicious treats that are new this year at the Farmers Market.
– Yeah, so we’re known for our farmers, of course, and ranchers, but we have some really exciting prepared food options this year.
A new business called Fancy Burger based in Orem is coming up every other week.
The best cheeseburgers I’ve ever had.
And they always have a special Fancy Burger on the menu.
Kin Kao Thai, which is a new business, they have been at the market just this year.
They have very traditional Thai food, really exciting.
And then Poffertjes, which are like tiny Dutch pancakes, were at the market a couple years ago, just returned this year.
So breakfast treats, lunch treats, whatever you’re looking for.
– Wow, my mouth is watering.
And we just saw some of the produce that is available at the Farmers Market.
And there’s something people should know about the fruit and the produce this year.
– Yeah, so, sadly, a lot of our fruit farmers across the state, not just our vendors, but statewide, saw 90 to 100% loss in tree fruit.
So everything from cherries, plums, peaches, apples all got wiped out statewide.
We do have a couple farmers, one that comes from Palisades, Colorado, that was able to save some of their fruit, and some on the south end of Utah Lake that just had a little microclimate.
But so fruit will be limited.
Tree fruit will be limited this year, but there’s still plenty of melons and berries at the market.
But don’t be surprised when you’re not seeing that on the shelves.
And when you are seeing it, just ask where it comes from.
Our market is fully local, so there won’t be any reselling there.
– Yeah, and there’s so many vendors that people can check out, as well.
– Yeah, we have so many vendors, over 300, like you said.
And I think this is a great time.
A lot of our farmers grow vegetables and fruit, so come out and support those farmers that maybe had a lot of loss but have great produce on their shelves still.
– All right, well, thank you so much, Carly, for this information.
