A test emergency alert sent by Chelan County to cell phones early this afternoon was not meant to alarm anyone but was a test of a feature of the system.

Jill FitzSimmons, the county’s public information officer, said officials are working to include attachments with some alerts that include such things as evacuation routes.

The alert went out about 12:15. And did say “test” twice in the body of the text but FitzSimmons said any such tests in the future will make it clear at the top it is only a test.

“We do realize this is a sensitive time and we apologize,” FitzSimmons said.
