The holiday season is right around the corner and stores are gearing up for the hustle and bustle of shoppers looking to find that perfect gift.
One Osseo business is eagerly awaiting the holiday rush and encouraging shoppers to think local.
Mary Brueske owns Bisque Boutique on the corner of Osseo’s Central Avenue.
Her store sells kitchen essentials, personal care items, Christian books, gifts, and home decor to personalize your space.
“Always, it’s: ‘What do you want?’ or ‘What is the feel you want?’ I think it’s really important the feel you get when you walk in a room,” said Brueske.

She also offers design help, utilizing her more than 20 years of experience as a designer.
“They can bring a picture and say, ‘I’m struggling with this area, help me.’ We’ll put things together, and we’ll make them something, and we’ll take a picture of it before they leave, so they’ll know how to put it together once they get home,” said Brueske.
Osseo, a Shopping Destination
Bisque Boutique is one of many, small local businesses located in downtown Osseo.
Downtown Osseo welcomes shoppers.
“It’s the variety of stores that keep people coming and keep people shopping,” said Brueske. “We have paint and home-crafted things. We have the sports memorabilia, Annabelle House, chocolates,” she said. “There’s so much to do in town and then all the restaurants.”
The plethora of stores and its quaint feel attracts shoppers.
“Osseo has this feel, kind of this Hallmark feel to it,” said Brueske.
Right now is a busy time of year for Brueske and her fellow small business retailers.
“Small business Saturday is probably our biggest event in Osseo for the year and we have great supporters of small business in town,” she said.
Brueske appreciates people who make Small Business Saturday part of their holiday tradition, foregoing big box retailers to shop at small, local shops for the day.
She says the support makes a big impact.
“People are really supporting small business more than ever,” says Brueske. “We’ve noticed that. All of us.”
Osseo’s Small Business Saturday will be November 30th.
