Downtown will get a permanent horse-mounted security force and more mega-event concerts starting in 2026, a booster said.
ST. LOUIS — Residents and visitors can expect a permanent security force on horseback downtown, a booster said Tuesday, as well as an increase in mega-event concerts like are held at the Dome.
Hotelier Bob O’Loughlin, chairman and CEO of Lodging Hospitality Management, said the district will hire a force to “permanently” patrol downtown on horseback. That will involve perhaps 20 policemen, working the secondary gig. He indicated security will be out all the time, not just during large events.
“What you’re going to see over the next five years, the safest city in the United States, we’re behind that,” O’Loughlin said.
“Once you see hundreds of thousands of people coming in for, whether it’s a convention, a sporting event or just a concert, you’re going to start to feel good about it once you see cops downtown walking a beat on horses,” he added.
