In a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson opened up about a question that intrigues many fans: Why didn’t he ever transition from WWE to UFC or pursue a career in MMA? Speaking with NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce, Johnson shared insights about his journey and the hurdles that made him reconsider the switch to mixed martial arts.

The Rock, known for his stellar career in the ring and on the big screen, once had dreams of becoming a professional football player while attending the University of Miami. However, after realizing that a career in football may not pan out as he originally hoped, he pivoted to wrestling, which ultimately led to his rise as a beloved figure in WWE.

Reflecting on the late 1990s, when he and his peers faced financial challenges as opening matches in WWE, Johnson recalled pondering over the lucrative opportunities in MMA. “Those guys are making a lot of money,” he noted, indicating that the potential earnings in UFC during that time were tempting.

Despite the thoughts of what could have been, Johnson recognized that MMA presented its own challenges. “MMA is a whole different beast,” he said, emphasizing the intense nature of the sport. He candidly described the ego that sometimes influences fighters during training, leading them to believe they could excel in the octagon. However, he ultimately realized the physical toll that the sport takes, confessing, “I don’t like to get hit in the face.”

His concern about the brutal aspects of MMA led him to conclude that stepping into the ring with fighters like Randy Couture or Ken Shamrock might not be worth the risk. Instead, Johnson has successfully carved out a multifaceted career for himself, spanning wrestling, acting, and business. As a partner in TKO Group Holdings, he continues to be involved with WWE while pursuing various acting roles.

The Rock’s trajectory serves as a reminder of how different choices can shape an individual’s career. While fans might imagine an alternate reality where he thrived in MMA, Johnson’s journey has led him to become a cultural icon in entertainment, paving the way for new opportunities and excitement both in and out of the ring.
