Tequila brand El Tequileño has introduced a limited edition extra añejo to celebrate its 65th anniversary.

Limited to 1,000 bottles, each box comes with a certificate of authenticity and a unique bottle number

El Tequileño was founded in 1959 by Don Jorge Salles Cuervo.

The brand is produced at La Guarreña Distillery in Tequila, Jalisco, as the distillery’s only brand and is overseen by Jorge Antonio ‘Tony’ Salles, a third-generation master distiller.

To celebrate the producer’s 65th anniversary this year, El Tequileño has launched an extra añejo, marking the second release of the brand’s most premium expression to date.

The special release honours the family’s legacy and dedication to crafting Tequilas.

El Tequileño 65th Anniversary Extra Añejo is a blend of Tequila aged for three to four years in American oak, new French oak and French oak barrels with a total of five casks.

The nose displays aromas of orange zest, papaya, plantain, and white chocolate, while the palate offers notes of ‘cooked agave, toasted oak, salty caramel and velvety stone fruit’.

Limited to 1,000 bottles, the expression debuted in select markets on 9 December with an SRP of US$800.

The celebratory release follows several accolades for El Tequileño this year, including being crowned as the Tequila Brand of the Year at The Spirits Business 2024 Awards.

At The 2024 Tequila & Mezcal Masters, the brand was also recognised with three Gold medals and a Silver medal.

Earlier this year, the brand introduced a still-strength expression to its lineup.

El Tequileño has also been busy increasing its international profile this year, landing in Asia, France, Cyprus and The Netherlands in partnership with distributor Charter Brands.
