OIT spent the summer improving security, communication, proctoring, classroom technology, AI, and more to support a successful new semester.
Please review the following list to complete required actions and learn about important changes.
You won’t be able to check off items as you go, but once you’ve reviewed the list, use the button at the bottom to let us know you’re ready for Fall 2026.
- Install any required updates and restart your computer.
Make updating and restarting your university devices a regular habit to help keep them secure and running smoothly. And remember to connect to VPN when you’re off campus. - Review Entra MFA settings and learn about passkeys.
Microsoft will begin recommending passkeys as the preferred authentication method for Entra beginning September 1. Review your MFA settings now so you’re familiar with your options. - Commit to only installing approved software.
Before installing new software, make sure it comes from an OIT-approved source and not a link in an email or chat message. Review the OIT cybersecurity guidelines for more ways to protect your device and university data. - Subscribe to the system status page.
Stay informed about planned maintenance, outages, and service disruptions by having email or text notifications sent directly to you. - Locate walk-up technology support.
The Help Desk is no longer located in the Student Union Building. Visit us in the ILC or at our new location on the second floor of Albertsons Library when you need in-person assistance. - Explore the new boisestate.ai.
The updated experience connects to Boise State resources, including class search and Google Workspace. While you’re at it, take a moment to review the university’s AI guidance and policies.
Especially for instructors:
- Learn about Honorlock if you administer proctored online exams.
Honorlock supports assessments across more publisher platforms, giving instructors greater flexibility while providing students with a no-cost proctoring experience. You can also read why some colleagues are really excited for this new tool. - See if your classroom has new AV equipment.
Some classrooms have new doc cams and microphones, including ceiling mics that better capture student discussion during class and in lecture recordings.
Bonus update:
- Passwords no longer expire.
Yes, you read that right! Between complexity requirements and MFA, routine password changes are no longer required. You may need to change your password one more time, but after that, password changes will only be necessary following a security event. That’s another reason to think twice before clicking links or installing software from email or chat!
