Five-star prospect Arafan Diane, the No. 1 center and a top-20 prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, committed to Houston on Wednesday.
Diane, 7-foot-1, 290 pounds, chose the Cougars over Arkansas, Indiana, Virginia and Kentucky, becoming the fifth-highest rated commitment in program history.
This past summer, Diane played for Iowa United on the 3SSB Circuit, averaging 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

What does this mean for the Cougars?
Since 2020, no program in the country has stacked up more wins than Houston, and now the Cougars are starting to feast on the recruiting trail, too. In the last cycle alone, they inked three top-20 prospects — Chris Cenac Jr., Isiah Harwell and Kingston Flemings — two of whom were McDonald’s All-Americans. For years, Houston built its reputation on player development, turning underrated guys into high-impact producers. Now they’re pairing that formula with some of the nation’s premier high school talent.
Diane fits that mold perfectly. He’s a load on the block, impossible to move off his spot and routinely overwhelms defenders with his strength and touch, converting roughly 80 percent of his attempts at the rim. Add in his soft hands and nose for the ball, and he projects as an elite rebounder at the next level.
“Arafan Diane brings shades of Kofi Cockburn with his massive frame, mobility, and physical presence,” an NBA scout said about Diane. “He’s gritty, tough, and carves out space naturally, owning his area on both ends. His high motor jumps off the floor, and with that blend of size, effort, and competitiveness, you can easily see him putting together a really strong college career.”
Cenac is expected to hear his name called in the first round of the NBA Draft in 2026, so adding Diane shores up their frontcourt for years to come.
What’s next for Houston?
The Cougars aren’t finished on the recruiting trail. Expect them to add another guard soon, with five-star Caleb Holt and top-45 prospect Ikenna Alozie taking official visits in late October. Securing one of them would be significant, especially with Emanuel Sharp and Milos Uzan set to graduate, and Flemings playing well enough that he could join Cenac in hearing his name called in next year’s NBA Draft.
