Jalen Milroe is a polarizing prospect, but the NFL seems to really like the potential Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback target.
Former NFL scout and NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah is one of those people that is a fan of Milroe. In fact, he believes the Alabama product has the highest upside in the entire quarterback class.
“Talking to teams, though, if you were to use the word the phrase with him that’s used more than any other of all the quarterbacks in this draft, that’s the lottery ticket. If you want to just take a lottery ticket that you could hit huge on if it all works out and all comes together, he’s got the highest upside of anybody in this draft, and that goes all the way up to Cam Ward at No. 1,” Jeremiah said.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and quarterbacks coach Tom Arth were in attendance for a dinner with Milroe at Alabama’s pro day. Milroe’s pro day is the only one Arth traveled to, along with the rest of the brass.
Jeremiah believes Milroe is still far from reaching his ceiling, but his innate tools are rare.
“But he is a long way from getting there. So to me it’s a classic second round pick. You get your first pick in the bag. You feel comfortable about it. It’s a double off the wall. Now you can stop choking up and swing for the fences with Jalen Milroe. That’s how just about everybody universally views him. We’ll see where he ends up going.”
Milroe is a projected day two who has not helped his stock throughout draft season. Once considered a first-round pick, Milroe is likely a second-round prospect.
A two-time captain, Milroe will wow in interviews as a humble, strong-willed leader who has proven his intangibles. However, the football tape itself is the question. Milroe has struggled with processing and accuracy in his Alabama tenure, and he did the same during his Senior Bowl practices.
