A fourth Michigan quarterback is plotting his departure, continuing a thinning of the position in recent weeks.
Veteran Jake Garcia, who appeared in one game for the Wolverines in 2025, entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday, a team spokesman confirmed to The Ann Arbor News/ MLive.
Garcia, who is seeking to play a sixth season collegiately, was eligible for a medical redshirt.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound quarterback was a late add to the Michigan roster in 2025, joining the Wolverines in the summer as an emergency backup to Bryce Underwood.
He played in Michigan’s Week 3 game against Central Michigan but didn’t attempt a pass.
Prior to his stint in Ann Arbor, Garcia bounced around between three different schools: East Carolina, where he started the 2024 season; Missouri, where he didn’t suit up in 2023; and Miami, where he began his college career, appeared in nine games and started one for the Hurricanes.
Garcia’s most productive season came in ‘24, when he threw for 1,426 passing yards, eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions for ECU.
He is the fourth Michigan quarterback to enter the NCAA transfer portal since it opened on Jan. 2, joining reserves Jadyn Davis, Mikey Keene and Davis Warren, the Wolverines’ primary starter in 2024.
Underwood has vowed his return to Michigan this fall, while the Wolverines have added Colorado State’s Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and LSU’s Colin Hurley to the QB room under new head coach Kyle Whittingham.
