The San Antonio-based grocer could be adding a store in Flower Mound, according to filing with the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
The site would be generally west of Long Prairie Road and Waketon Road, according to the documents that show renderings of H-E-B signs, a building and parking discussions connected to the chain. It’s also near a large shopping area that includes Target, Old Navy, Whole Foods and Lowe’s.
H-E-B is ramping up in the greater Dallas area, tapping into the growing population and dynamic economy, even as it competes with long-time players such as Walmart, Kroger and Tom Thumb. The company opened three of its namesake stores in as many months earlier this year.
The project, which is being developed by Regency Centers, would include several structures, including the grocery store, which were discussed as part of a work session last week. The site will cover more than 25 acres.
H-E-B has made other moves in the area. Last year, it purchased a roughly 23-acre site on the northeast corner of U.S. 377 and Cross Timbers Road. It’s part of a large master-planned community, Furst Ranch, that’s roughly between Flower Mound, Bartonville and Argyle.

Today, residents of Flower Mound must drive to stores in places such as Frisco and Irving to shop at H-E-B.
Meanwhile, a planned Denton store, which is near the intersection of Interstate 35W and Robson Ranch Road, is getting closer to opening its doors.
“We are hopeful the store on Robson Ranch Road will open around the holidays,” Jackson said.
