Insa Cannabis, a Massachusetts-based company, opened the business on Sargent Drive. It is New Haven’s second recreational dispensary.

Insa, Inc., an independent medical and adult-use cannabis company based in Massachusetts, debuted its state-of-the-art facility, which features a 360-degree shoppable sales floor, beautiful display cases and a motion-censored flower bar that provides authentic aromas of available strains, according to a release from the company.

The Affinity Health and Wellness hybrid medical and recreational dispensary opened in the city on Whalley Avenue earlier this year.

With the opening of its New Haven dispensary, Insa has now established two shops in Connecticut in 2024. The company opened its first Connecticut dispensary in Hartford in late April on Brainard Road on the property of the former Chowder Pot restaurant.

Insa CEO and co-founder Peter Gallagher said in the release that the opening of the Connecticut locations further expands the company’s unique retail experience and continues its approach to training a “best-in-class” staff.

“Our mission in entering the Connecticut market was to engage with the local community and their brands by bringing a retail experience that fully allows customers to immerse themselves in an educational and sensory journey,” Gallagher said, in the release.

Founded in Springfield, Mass. in 2013, Insa operates more than 15 dispensaries spread across multiple states and looks to provide an unparalleled in-store experience by educating their employees and featuring exceptional retail design, the release said. Both the Hartford and New Haven dispensaries were designed to enable an engaging experience between customers and employees.

“From the motion-censored flower bar providing authentic aromas of available strains, to the curated product presentations, the Insa experience is truly unique,” said Sara Sullivan, Insa’s vice president of Retail Development, Experience, & Operations. “We focus on providing our patients with an approachable and memorable shopping experience. At Insa, we truly pride ourselves on in-store education, and our associates are trained to make the experience as seamless, customizable, and informative as possible.”

Both the Hartford and New Haven stores have upcoming grand opening events scheduled. A ceremony will take place in Hartford on Friday, June 21, from 4-7 p.m. An event will be held in New Haven on Saturday, June 22, from noon to 6 p.m.
