Jibs everywhere. Everywhere…. Photo: Screenshot

The Inertia

Spend enough time in New York City and, if you’re a lover of the outdoors, you’ll start to go a little stir crazy. And I say this as somebody who’s very much in love with every corner of that town. But trees and grass are tough to find on the island of Manhattan. And once you realize that, you can’t help but take big, deep breaths anytime you find yourself in Central Park. It’s one place that’s so distinctly part of that city, while also feeling like an entirely different universe.

New York is also a place that takes on a whole new life when it snows, and the city was delivered a solid storm around the Christmas holiday – that week between Christmas and New Year’s when everybody forgets what day it is and slips into a timeless void.

A handful of athletes who ride for Signal snowboards happened to be in town while there was fresh snow on the ground (New York “fresh,” a mix of snow and grime, but you get the picture), and decided to take a stroll through Central Park with their boards. It’s a genius move, of course, because Central Park has no shortage of jibs. Rocks, trees, staircases, benches, and rails are everywhere in the park and even though there isn’t much incline to make it ideal, the crew made it work.

Honestly, somebody get a winch and call the people at Red Bull. This could be the best spot ever for a Heavy Metal.
