Jesus Guerra is the new president of Pilot Energy, replacing Gary Hoogeveen, who is retiring.

Hoogeveen, who was named president in April 2024, will stay on to support the transition through April 2026, Knoxville, Tennessee-based Pilot Co. said.

“Gary Hoogeveen has been an instrumental part of shaping Pilot’s core energy business and future strategy,” said Adam Wright, CEO of Pilot Co. “Gary will retire from Pilot in April 2026 to ensure a smooth transition and help support key initiatives for the company.”

  • Pilot Co. is No. 16on CSP’s 2025 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by store count.

Guerra, who has been with Pilot since 2018, “has decades of experience in the energy sector and is committed to Pilot’s purpose-driven strategy,” Wright said. “Jesus will work alongside the rest of the executive leadership team to guide our energy vertical and deliver on Pilot’s ambition to be the leading energy and experience provider people rely on to fuel their journeys.”

Guerra said, “I am grateful and honored for the opportunity to serve as president, energy, for Pilot. I look forward to partnering with our team members to continue strengthening our core fuels business and shaping the future of energy for our guests, customers and the industry.”

Guerra started at Pilot Flying J in 2018 as director of trade operations, according to his LinkedIn page,

Before that, he was business manger of oil liquids at Stamford, Connecticut-based Noble Americas Corp. from 2014 to 2018.

Hoogeveen joined Pilot Energy last year from Salt Lake City-based Rocky Mountain Power, where he was president and CEO.

Founded in 1958, Pilot is a wholly owned subsidiary of Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and employs about 30,000 team members. It has more than 900 locations in 44 states and five Canadian provinces, serving an average of 1.2 million customers per day. In addition to travel center services, Pilot and its partners offer trucking fleets a variety of solutions for fuel, credit, factoring, maintenance and rewards. The company operates North America’s third largest fuel tanker fleet and supplies approximately 12 billion gallons of fuel per year. Pilot is one of the largest providers of biodiesel and renewable fuels and developer of low-carbon fueling alternatives.
