Defeating Brady 11-0, the Olympic gold medalist has created a significant buzz with his elite display of wrestling. Recently, the Olympic icon elaborated on why he never made it to MMA.

Following his incredible performance on the mat, the 38-year-old was heavily touted to join the UFC. After all, we all know how well the wrestlers have fared over the years in Dana White’s promotion. But surprisingly, the transition never happened. Speaking with Ariel Helwani recently, the legendary wrestler pointed out how he has deliberately let his mixed martial arts dreams fade for the sake of his family.
“Being a Christian… I thought that transition would be more about what I could get and who I could become, and I just don’t think it would have been good for my faith, for my family, or for my marriage. That lifestyle would not have been healthy for a family man,” Burroughs chimed in.
The legendary Olympian also stated that he did consider coming to the MMA circuit. He was tempted by the high pay and the glamour that follows. But in the end, he restrained himself. However, despite not embracing MMA, fans can still watch Burroughs fighting UFC stars.
Jordan Burroughs is Eager to Face Islam Makhachev
Burroughs has already made his mark against one of the UFC stars. Now, he is looking to challenge more figures from the UFC realm. And one of his first choices for the same is none other than Brady’s welterweight counterpart, Islam Makhachev. In his interview with Helwani, the 38-year-old legend pointed out that he would love to see how well the Dagestani can wrestle.
“Number one, I would like to wrestle Islam. I think that’s the top of my list. A few years ago in an interview, he was like, ‘Man, JB’s just got a double leg, brother. Like, I’m from Russia. Russia is the premier wrestling program. Well, let’s see,” said Burroughs.
Thus, it is evident that Burroughs’s return has created a buzz. It remains to be seen, though, if he gets a high-profile matchup at RAF per his wishes.
