The final week of October, Miami University President Gregory Crawford issued a list of achievements at the college based in Oxford and said the school was very close to reaching its goal of fundraising $1 billion.
Ten days later, Miami announced a $100 million donation from the Farmer Family Foundation to the acclaimed business school that bears the Farmer name. That put Miami over the $1 billion mark; originally it thought it might reach the goal next summer.
The “For love, For honor. For those who will.” campaign started in 2022.
“The gift from the Farmer Family Foundation will allow the Farmer School of Business to continue its momentum as a globally recognized leader in business education,” the university said in a news release Friday, Nov. 6. “The gift is the largest in Miami’s history and one of the top three largest gifts given to a public undergraduate business school in the United States.”
Vice President of University Advancement Scott Barrett said donors responded with extraordinary generosity.
“What stands out to me about this campaign is the remarkable commitment of our donors to Miami. Every gift represents an investment in our students, our faculty, and the opportunities that make a Miami education so special. That’s the real impact of reaching this milestone,” Barrett said.
The name of the campaign is pulled from the Miami legacy quote “Love and Honor.”
The university says nearly a third of the campaign’s money, $230 million, is for student scholarships.
More than 57,000 alumni and friends have donated to the campaign, school officials said.
