KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The City of Kirksville is hosting its second annual MLB Pitch, Hit and Run event.
Kids ages seven to 14 will get to participate in a series of measured events based on pitching, hitting at bat and running.
They’ll be recording and tallying up the scores from each series.
Last year around 80 kids participated. This year, they’re hoping to more than double that and get 175 kids to step up to the plate.
There is a major incentive if they knock that number out of the park.
“So, I have four age divisions,” said Recreation Coordinator with Kirksville Parks and Rec Keegan Whisler. “Four for softball four for baseball doesn’t matter which division, doesn’t matter which age doesn’t matter which sport. If I have 175 total participants registered before May 16 before the event. Then all of those eight division winners will automatically go on to round two at the team championships.”
If they don’t get 175 kids to sign up then those eight division winners scores will go into a regional pool with the highest scores advancing to a team championship at an MLB or MILB stadium with a chance to qualify for an all-expense paid trip to the MLB World Series.
Kids can test their skills at Gardner Field in Kirksville’s North Park Sports Complex on May 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
