Lanes reopen after garbage truck catches fire on I-285 SB in DeKalb County

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A garbage truck fire caused major backups on I-285 southbound in DeKalb County Tuesday afternoon.

All lanes were closed at E Ponce de Leon Avenue and Church Street for more than an hour. Lanes began opening back up around 3:30 p.m. All lanes were open as of 5:40 p.m., according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

Footage from the scene showed heavy smoke billowing into the air and grass in the median burning.
