LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Two Las Vegas Metro police officers were hospitalized after attempting to stop a suspect accused of stealing clothing at a well-known southwest valley shopping center.

It happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday in the 4100 block of Blue Diamond Road near Valley View Boulevard.

One of the suspects was accused of stealing clothing at the shopping center the other suspect was identified as a driver in the getaway vehicle, according to police.

Officers found the suspect in the parking lot, after which the suspect resisted the officer. Several other suspects then intervened with the police, according to LVMPD.

Before officers could detain the suspect, the driver of the vehicle drove off at a high rate of speed; however, the officer was still holding onto the suspect as the vehicle drove off.

The officer was then dragged by the vehicle as it continued through the shopping center parking lot and into the street. The vehicle ultimately crashed into landscaping rocks on the north side of Blue Diamond Road. Additional officers came to the area to assist, and an unrelated box truck collided with another police patrol vehicle, causing additional injuries in the roadway.

The incident injured two officers, police told 8 News Now. One officer was taken to a hospital with serious injuries that are non-life-threatening, and the second officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Two other people were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

A total of four suspects were taken into custody related to the incident, police told 8 News Now.
