The New Jersey Coalition of Latino Pastors and Ministers have endorsed Republican Jack Ciattarelli for governor, giving him the backing of a coalition of more than 100 churches as he heads into the final stretch of the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy.
“Jack Ciattarelli’s leadership will be key to advancing public policies that foster unity, development, and equitable participation for all sectors of society,” said Julio Escotto, a pastor from Paterson and the president of Confraternidad Latina de Pastores. “His vision of a government that fosters collaboration with faith-based and community organizations aligns with our mission and commitment to the well-being of our society.”
Escotto cited Ciattarelli’s commitment to engage and empower Hispanic leaders.
“We consider this effort to be vital for strengthening the collaboration between the government and religious organizations in addressing fundamental needs within our communities,” he said.
In last year’s Democratic U.S. Senate primary, CoLaPa backed labor leader Patricia Campos-Medina. She is now a vice chair of Democrat Mikie Sherrill’s gubernatorial campaign.
The membership of the churches in the Confraternidad Latina de Pastores coalition is estimated at 15,000 to 20,000. Escotto said the group is “committed to promoting the fundamental values that uphold a traditional family-oriented society.”
