HERE. AND SABRINA, YOU SPOKE WITH THEM ABOUT THIS FIRST YEAR. NOW THE SOUTH SIDE ROBOTICS CLUB BEGAN EARLIER THIS YEAR IN AUGUST. STUDENTS WHO MIGHT NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ROBOTICS IN THEIR SCHOOLS AND WANT TO BE PART OF A TEAM, CAN JOIN THE GROUP AT LCDA. SO THE KIDS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PROGRAM THE REMOTE CONTROL TO BE ABLE TO MOVE ONE OF THE MOTORS ON COMMAND. LEARNING ROBOTICS IS AN OPPORTUNITY THAT NOT EVERY STUDENT HAS WHILE AT SCHOOL. SO IN FRONT OF US, YOU’LL SEE JUST ONE OF THE DRIVE TRAINS THAT WE’VE BEEN WORKING ON. THE LATINO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY CREATED THE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO EXPLORE STEM WITH THEIR SOUTH SIDE ROBOTICS CLUB. A ROBOTICS CLUB, SC IS ESSENTIALLY A STEM INITIATIVE IN COLLABORATION WITH THE LCDA, WITH QEP AND FIRST ROBOTICS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS THAT DON’T CURRENTLY HAVE ACCESS TO A ROBOTICS CLUB. THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET INVOLVED AND START BUILDING ROBOTS. ROBOTICS IS A WAY FOR THE STUDENTS TO BUILD DIFFERENT SKILLS USING TECHNOLOGY. BEING TWO YOUNG ENGINEERS, WE REALIZED THAT, YOU KNOW, I THINK A LOT OF THE JOBS OF THE FUTURE REQUIRE A CERTAIN SKILL SET WHEN IT COMES TO PROBLEM SOLVING, SOLVING, BEING ABLE TO THINK CRITICALLY AND BEING ABLE TO REALLY WORK AND COLLABORATE IN A TEAM SETTING. THE CLUB IS GEARED TOWARDS SEVENTH THROUGH 12TH GRADERS AND OKC AND NEARBY AREAS. A LOT OF TIMES HISTORICALLY, WHEN YOU LOOK THE SOUTH SIDE OF OKLAHOMA CITY DOESN’T TYPICALLY GET THE RESOURCES THAT WE COULD BE GETTING. IT COULD BE ALLOCATING FOR IT. AND SOMETIMES EVEN THE HISPANIC CULTURE, YOU KNOW, WE’RE NOT REALLY INTO MOVING ALL FAR OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZONE TO GO TO A PROGRAM WHERE WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. AND SO WHEN WE WANT TO HAVE THIS PROGRAM, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THESE STUDENTS FEEL EMPOWERED. THEY FEEL LIKE THEY CAN DO IT. NOT ONLY CAN THEY DO IT, BUT THEY CAN BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS PROGRAM. THE ROBOTICS CLUB HAS BEEN BUILDING THEIR ROBOT AND BUILDING UP THEIR TEAM, AND WILL BE COMPETING IN FUTURE COMPETITIONS. WE ARE ABLE TO JUST ENCOURAGE SOME STUDENTS TO MAYBE GET INTO STEM, GET INTO GO TO COLLEGE AND JUST HAVE AN EDUCATION AND ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR SOCIETY IN A BETTER WAY. I MEAN, I THINK IT’S GOING TO UPLIFT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY OF OKLAHOMA CITY AND BEYOND. THE SOUTH SIDE ROBOTICS CLUB IS LOOKING TO GROW AND EXPAND ACROSS THE OKC COMMUNITY AND BEYOND. NOW YOU CAN JOIN US EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 4:00 FOR STEM SPOTLIGHT WITH ME METEOROLOGIST SABRINA BATES. AND AS ALWAYS, IF YOU HAVE A PROGRAM STU
