ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – The Ellen Noel Art Museum’s newest exhibit, Latinos on Wheels: Lowriders of Tejas, is set to open with a reception next Thursday.
The exhibit, created by photographer Al Rendon, showcases the history, artistry and traditions of lowrider culture through photography. A Thunderbird lowrider, on loan from a couple in San Antonio, is also on display.
Daniel Zies, curator for the Ellen Noel Art Museum, said the exhibit goes beyond the vehicles themselves.
“That community is very strong, there’s a lot of people that participate in that. I think that’s what Al really wanted to showcase, not just the cars themselves that he does a lot of photography of, but also like community, family, and like why that’s important,” Zies said.
The reception will include participants of the exhibit and artist Al Rendon for a gallery talk. A car exhibition is scheduled for the following Saturday.
