Video shows implosion of Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami

The 23-story Mandarin Oriental Hotel vanished in under 20 seconds after a planned implosion demolished the iconic Miami building.

  • The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami’s Brickell Key was demolished over the weekend.
  • The 23-story hotel was imploded 26 years after its initial construction.
  • The site will be redeveloped into a new property including a smaller hotel and private residences, which are already for sale.

Just under three decades after its construction, Miami’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel was brought down by a planned implosion on April 12 at around 8:30 a.m.

The demolition produced a cloud of dust that filled the air near Brickell Key, according to a video posted to Instagram.

Where was the Mandarin Oriental?

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel was located at 500 Brickell Key Drive in Miami.

What comes next?

Set to rise in its place is a property by the same owners, Swire Properties, which will include a new hotel with fewer available rooms, as well as private residences.

Construction of The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Miami, will begin later this year and is expected to be completed by 2030.

The north tower, which will be built in the same spot as the old Mandarin Oriental, will house the new hotel. The south tower will be made up of 228 condos, which are already for sale. Prices range from $4.9 million to $100 million.
