We recently connected with Jessica Lugo and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jessica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
We are the Association for Hispanic Theological Education (AETH), a network of people and institutions that since 1992 has been working in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and more recently in Latin America and the Caribbean.
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and improvement of theological education and its impact on the lives of individuals, churches and communities.
We promote and certify the quality of Hispanic theological education programs and contribute to the leadership development of women and men who strengthen our congregations and communities.
We are a community of experts and leaders who share a passion for promoting theological education. Our network is made up of educators, researchers, directors of educational institutions, pastors, denominational leaders, NGO and FBO leaders, authors, speakers and students.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My professional journey has been a dynamic blend of business, strategic planning, and a deep calling to serve God’s kingdom, all driven by a passion for education. I began my career as a business banker, where I honed my skills in financial analysis, relationship-building, and understanding the needs of businesses at various stages. This experience provided me with a strong foundation in corporate strategy and operations, and the ability to assess complex financial situations and guide clients toward growth. However, as I continued in my career, I felt a deeper calling—one that led me to shift from business banking to strategic planning. In this role, I’ve been able to leverage my banking expertise to help organizations develop and execute long-term strategies, focusing on sustainable growth and alignment with their values and missions.
At the same time, my passion for education and desire to make a lasting impact on individuals’ lives has been a constant throughout my career. I believe that true transformation comes when we empower people with knowledge and skills that can help them thrive both personally and professionally. This philosophy shapes the work I do—whether I am advising businesses on their strategies, mentoring professionals, or helping organizations build educational programs that foster growth and development.
What sets me apart is my unique intersection of financial acumen, strategic thinking, and a heart for service. My approach goes beyond just solving immediate problems; I strive to help clients build sustainable frameworks that align with their broader goals, especially those that reflect their core values and purposes. I am proud of the relationships I’ve built along the way, helping individuals and organizations navigate their challenges, and seeing them flourish in ways that make a meaningful difference.
Most importantly, my work is driven by a strong desire to build something that lasts—whether it’s helping a business grow, empowering an individual with knowledge, or serving others through a kingdom-minded mission. My brand is rooted in integrity, education, and strategic vision, and I aim to inspire those I work with to pursue their potential while aligning their efforts with something greater than themselves.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
To keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty in a theological faith-based nonprofit organization, it’s essential to cultivate genuine relationships through consistent, transparent communication that highlights the impact of their support. Regular updates via personalized newsletters, heartfelt thank-you messages, and sharing stories of lives changed through the organization’s work can create a deep sense of connection. Engaging clients in the organization’s mission through volunteer opportunities, prayer groups, and community events fosters a sense of belonging and purpose.
Additionally, offering spiritual growth opportunities, such as Bible studies or workshops, aligns with their faith journey, reinforcing the shared values. By demonstrating gratitude, maintaining regular contact, and showcasing the tangible impact of their contributions, clients will feel valued and inspired to remain loyal to the mission, seeing their support as part of something greater.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
For me it has been about hard work, consistency, and believing in oneself the cornerstones of resilience and achieving your goals. When you put in the effort, even when the path seems difficult, you build a foundation of discipline and determination that strengthens over time. Consistency ensures that progress is made, step by step, and that setbacks don’t derail your vision.
Most importantly, believing in yourself is crucial—it fuels your perseverance, even when faced with challenges or doubts. By trusting in your abilities, you cultivate the mental and emotional resilience needed to overcome obstacles, adapt to change, and ultimately reach your goals. The combination of these qualities empowers you to stay focused, motivated, and unwavering, no matter what the journey entails.
