CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men’s golf team, which earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship by capturing the Sun Belt Conference title last week, will compete as the No. 12 seed at the NCAA Bremerton (Wash.) Regional at the Gold Mountain Golf Club as the NCAA Men’s Golf Committee unveiled the field for this year’s championship Wednesday.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 12-14. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

The championship will be held May 23-28 in Carlsbad, Calif., at the Omni La Costa Resort.

“I’m very excited about where we are going,” CCU head coach Jacob Wilner said. “Even though it’s on the other side of the country, [the golf course] is good for us. Assistant coach Sam Harned and I have a lot of experience out there.

“I’m so happy for my guys, especially the seniors. Winning a conference championship is an experience they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. We had five guys finish in the top 18 at the conference championship and we’ve caught fire at the right time. Now it’s a matter of going out west and seeing what we can do.”

The Bremerton Regional includes 14 teams and five individuals with 10 teams ranked among the top 60 teams in the nation according to Scoreboard. In order of seed, the field includes Arizona State (5), Florida (8), Utah (17) South Carolina (20), South Florida (29), Colorado (32), Charlotte (41), Kansas (44), Colorado State (54) and Kansas State (57) along with automatic qualifiers Elon (CAA), Oral Roberts (Summitt) and Seattle University (WAC). Charlotte and Florida were also automatic qualifiers.

The Chanticleers are playing in an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2018 and 13th overall. It’s only the second time they are playing in an NCAA regional on the West Coast having previously ventured to Sunriver, Ore., in 2004.

The other five regional sites are: Amherst, Va. (Poplar Grove Golf Club); Auburn, Ala. (University Club); Reno, Nev. (Montreux Golf and Country Club); Tallahassee, Fla. (Seminole Legacy Golf Club); Urbana, Ill. (Atkins Golf Club).
