LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Several former members of Menudo are reuniting for a new tour celebrating the iconic Latin pop group’s upcoming 50th anniversary, with the first show set for Saturday at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood.
Members of the Menudo 50th Anniversary Tour have been rehearsing for months as they prepare to bring the group’s music back to audiences and celebrate a legacy that helped shape Latin pop music. Fans around the world are looking forward to reliving the era known as “Menudomania,” while the performers say they are eager to share a setlist spanning multiple generations of the group’s history.

“It’s the playlist of our lives and we’re going to be singing songs from 1977 to 1991,” member Sergio Blass said.
Blass recalled the group’s immense popularity during its heyday.
“Girls would go crazy. It was like The Beatles effect,” he said.
Rubén Gómez also shared memories of the band’s devoted fan base, saying some even sneaked into their rooms.
“We woke up once in the middle of the night with flashes of light and we’re like, ‘What is that?’ The fans were behind the curtains for hours waiting for us to fall asleep and then take a picture,” Gómez said.
Over the years, Menudo became known for replacing members as they aged out of the group. Various lineups released about 30 albums and produced numerous hit singles.
The group also made television appearances, including on “Silver Spoons” and “The Love Boat.”
Roy Rossello, who appeared in an episode of “The Love Boat,” reflected on those experiences.
“I was with Ricky Martin, Robbie Draco, other members, too. And it was very fun. It was very, very good,” Rossello said.
“Very good days. Fun days,” Raymond Acevedo added.
“Yes, yes, yes,” Rossello replied.
Preparing for the anniversary tour has required a significant commitment from the performers. Rossello, now a pastor, said he lost 47 pounds in preparation for returning to the stage.
“We were rehearsing for what, two months?” Acevedo said.
“Two months!” other members responded.
“Two months in Miami, you know, day in and day out, doing four or five hours a day of rehearsal and weights and all that stuff,” Acevedo said.
The anniversary lineup also includes René Farrait, whom fellow members refer to as “The Godfather.”
“He sings, actually, Menudo’s most popular song, which is ‘Subete a Mi Moto,'” Robert Avellanet said.
Farrait said that he is proud to bring Puerto Rican culture with him wherever he travels.
As the tour begins, the performers say they hope audiences will be transported back to the group’s most memorable years.
“And people will go back in time because the concept of the show, it’s the time machine. They’re going to go through the time machine and come out and see Menudo and feel and experience Menudo again,” Avellanet said.
Menudo’s 50th Anniversary Tour is scheduled to kick off Saturday at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood. Tickets remain available.
