When Miami quarterback Carson Beck was still at Georgia, he was one of 2024’s preseason Heisman favorites. Now with Miami, there is still belief that Beck could win the Heisman in 2025. USA TODAY’s Blake Toppmeyer considers Carson Beck as one of five Heisman Trophy sleepers.
Toppmeyer believes the talent is still there for Beck to win the Heisman. “He still can make throws most other quarterbacks can’t,” said Toppmeyer.
Last year, Beck threw 12 interceptions, which tied for the most of any SEC quarterbacks last year. However, Beck threw 28 touchdowns, fourth among all SEC quarterbacks. He also suffered from the most passes dropped in the nation and had a running game that finished second to last among all SEC teams in rushing yards per game.
He also goes to the ACC, which has significantly weaker defenses. Last year, Miami added Washington State quarterback Cam Ward from the transfer portal, and in just one year in Miami’s system, Ward became the Heisman runner-up, although he lost it to WR/CB Travis Hunter.
There’s still an injury concern with Beck. He injured his elbow in Georgia’s 2024 SEC championship win, causing him to miss the rest of the 2024 season and some spring practices in Miami. However, he recently resumed throwing, and when healthy, Beck could be one of the best quarterbacks not just in the ACC, but the entire nation.
