A woman who lost her engagement ring while commuting in New York City was able to get it back — all thanks to members of New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
Ticket clerk Nicholas Appel told WABC-TV that he spotted a woman “panicked, stressed and on the verge of tears” as she rummaged through her bag at Grand Central Station during one of his work shifts.
“My first move was to ask what was going on and that’s when she said she lost the engagement ring and then from there on out, we were searching the whole train car,” Appel told the outlet.
The woman said she had lost the ring some time during her commute to Queens Village after she had transferred on a train in lower Brooklyn, per WABC-TV.
After searching the place with no sign of the ring, Appel recommended that she file a police report. He accompanied her to MTA Police headquarters where she walked officers through when she last remembered seeing the ring.
“On the way [to Jamaica], she took off her ring to put lotion on her hands and that’s when I went, ‘Ah,’ ” MTA Officer Nyndak said.

Another MTA officer said he found the train number that she had been on, contacted the railroad and was able to pinpoint the location of the train in Brooklyn, based on the woman’s timeline in her report. He then went to the train to investigate — which ended up being successful.
“As I was walking towards the last train car, towards the end of the train car, I happened to look on the right, and I saw something that was shining and it was glistening… it was a big ring,” MTA Officer Tongzon told WABC-TV.

Officer Nyndak said he called the woman who anxiously asked, “Did you find it? Did you find it?” and told her the good news.
“She was obviously ecstatic and we were happy that we found it,” he shared.
The MTA officers were able to get the ring back to the woman the same day that they started their search, and added that it may have been all thanks to one of the officers manifesting the happy outcome.
“Me and my partner at the time, funny enough when we were on our way to the call, I said I want to find this ring. Just cause it’s a nice thing to do, but I know it meant a lot to her as well so we tried our best,” the officer recalled. “… Luckily we met [the] same day, gave it back to her, and the commuter left happy.”
