Super Bowl LX is set to make history as the Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but California Gov. Gavin Newsom says the halftime show may be the real headline.

Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny is scheduled to perform during halftime, prompting Newsom to declare Sunday “Bad Bunny Day” in California.

In a post written entirely in capital letters on X, Newsom said he was a huge fan of “PUERRRRRRRTO RICO.”

“AS MANY PEOPLE KNOW, I AM A TREMENDOUS LOVER OF “THE SPANISH.” IT IS A BEAUTIFUL LANGUAGE SPOKEN BY MANY BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE IN THE GREAT STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND ACROSS THE WORLD,” Newsom wrote.

Fans expressed excitement across social media after the NFL announced that the artist, born Benito Martínez Ocasio, would headline this year’s halftime show. Some fans even went as far as posting a countdown to learn Spanish ahead of the game, which is expected to draw millions of viewers worldwide.

California Live contributor Laura Britt has the lineup of music heavyweights coming to the Bay Area for Super Bowl LX. From global phenomenon Bad Bunny headlining the Halftime Show to rock legends Green Day and The Killers taking pre-game stages, the music landscape promises non-stop entertainment. Adding to the star power, iconic artist Sting and more famous musicians will perform across various events, ensuring every fan finds their rhythm amidst the all the sports action.

Speaking at a press conference Thursday, Bad Bunny said he hopes fans enjoy the performance.

“I really want people to have fun. It’s gonna be a huge party,” he said. “I want to bring what people can expect from me, and a lot from my culture.”

Bad Bunny recently won the 2026 Grammy Award for Album of the Year for Debí Tirar Más Fotos. He also sold out a 31-show residency that ran from July to September 2025 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

His popularity has extended globally, including appearances on “Saturday Night Live.”

“THAT IS WHY I AM DECLARING TOMORROW IN CALIFORNIA AS “BAD BUNNY DAY” WHEN BAD BUNNY PERFORMS AT THE BIG GAME IN THE GOLDEN STATE WITH HIS SOOTHING, BEAUTIFUL VOICE, AND HIS VERY NICE LOOKS. MANY PEOPLE CAN’T STOP TALKING ABOUT HIM ACCORDING TO MY “GUYS” AND “GALS!”

The governor ended his post by writing, “HAPPY BUNNY DAY, AMERICA. ENJOY!!!”

Super Bowl LX will air on NBC at 3:30 p.m. PT.
