Two Rochester-area smoke shops have been shut down after a raid by the state Office of Cannabis Management.
The OCM says it worked with Rochester Police to identify shops they say were selling adult-use cannabis without a license.
Officials say Unique Smoke Shop on Lyell Avenue in the city and Mr. Starlight Smoke Shop on Chestnut Ridge Road in Chili have both been shut down following enforcement inspections that took place on April 16.
A storage facility used by both shops was also shuttered.
Officials say more than $1.3 million in cannabis products were seized.
“OCM will continue to take enforcement actions against unlicensed operators,” Daniel Haughney, director of enforcement and investigations for the New York State Office of Cannabis Management, said in a statement. “We are grateful for the collaboration with the Rochester Police Department to shut down these locations. Unlicensed cannabis operations pose risks to public health and undermine the legal market. Our investigators will continue to disrupt and dismantle illicit operations like this to protect New Yorkers.”
