The Ontario Hockey League has suspended Brampton Steelheads defenseman Luke Dragusica for the remainder of the 2025-26 regular season and playoffs after slashing Brady Blaseg of the Oshawa Generals in the head during a game last week.

Dragusica received a match penalty for slashing late in the third period of Brampton’s 3-1 win.

Dragusica and Blaseg were involved in a collision behind the Brampton net. After Dragusica got on his feet, he swung his stick at Blaseg’s head as Blaseg was skating away. Dragusica then cross-checked Blaseg in the back as the Generals defenseman was lying on the ice.

The OHL’s Department of Player Safety used video, game reports and interviews from personnel from both teams to come to their decision. “The deliberate use of a stick as a weapon to an opponent’s head, followed by further contact on a defenseless player, is a dangerous and unacceptable act that has no place in the OHL,” the league wrote in its decision.

Dragusica will also be required to complete an education, counseling and community service program. He will be required to appear before a Reinstatement Panel before he can apply for reinstatement to play again next season.

Having already been out two games, Dragusica will sit for at least the remaining 47 regular-season games for the Steelheads.

Blaseg returned for the Generals’ next game, but was on the end of another suspendible incident when he was hit from behind by Brett Hammond of the Erie Otters. Hammond was ejected and suspended for one game.
