NHL Betting Overview Friday Night Key Odds Insights

Vancouver Canucks at Carolina Hurricanes CAR

The Vancouver Canucks (8-9-1) and the Carolina Hurricanes (11-5-0) meet at the Lenovo Center at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

The Canucks kick off a three-game road trip against the Hurricanes in Raleigh, before they proceed to the Sunshine State to battle the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers. In the past four games, Vancouver is just 1-2-1, and the Over has cashed in seven in a row, with 3.4 goals per game (GPG) scored, while allowing 4.3 GPG in the seven-game span. The Over is 9-1 in the past 10 games, too.

The Hurricanes suffered a 4-1 loss at home against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night, halting a four-game winning streak. Carolina had been lighting the lamp on a regular basis, too, going for 4.5 GPG in the win streak. The Canes have allowed three or more goals in four in a row, too, cashing the Over in three of the past four games.

Carolina swept the regular-season series in 2024-25, outscoring Vancouver 6-3, including a 2-0 win as moderate favorites (-165) behind goals from Jordan Staal and Andrei Svechnikov.

Kevin Lankinen (3-5-1, 3.56 GAA, .884 save percentage) is projected to start in net for the visitors, while Pyotr Kochetkov (2-0-0, 1.46 GAA, .936 save percentage, 1 SO) is likely for the home side.

We’ll go Over on the total, especially because of Vancouver’s total trends lately. As far as the winner, Carolina is too expensive to play straight up. Vancouver has played nine one-goal games in the past 14 outings, so let’s take the Canucks catching the goal and a half.

Also, if you’re looking for a player prop, consider Carolina’s Nikolaj Ehlers, who has three goals and six points in the past five games. The Canes are getting the player they thought when they landed the biggest fish in free agency this offseason, and he is a strong play to more than double up if he scores a goal.

  • Canucks +1.5 Goals (-114 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
  • Over 6 Goals (-120 at BetMGM)
  • Nikolaj Ehlers – Anytime Goal Scorer (+210 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

Philadelphia Flyers PHI at St. Louis Blues STL

The Flyers (8-5-3) and Blues (5-8-3) meet at Enterprise Center at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

Philadelphia swept the season series in 2024-25, winning 2-1 at home on Oct. 31, 2024, while picking up a 3-2 OTW on Nov. 30 as slight underdogs (+120) as the Under (5.5) cashed. Philadelphia has won five of the past seven installments, too, including four of the past five trips to St. Louis since Jan. 15, 2020.

The total going low has been a common theme in this Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference series, with the Under going 4-0-2 in the past six in this series since Nov. 8, 2022.

The Under is the important play here, and the one you’ll want to pursue the most. Philadelphia has scored a total of six goals, while allowing six total goals, in the past three games, cashing the Under in each outing. The Under is 6-2 in the past eight games since Oct. 28, too.

The Flyers have played a total of 10 one-goal games in 16 outings this season, and they’ve gone to either overtime or a shootout in five of the past nine games dating back to Oct. 25.

The Blues posted a 3-2 win against the Calgary Flames at home on Tuesday, but they’re still just 3-4-3 in 10 home games. Based on the series trends, let’s back the Flyers to get the job done behind Dan Vladar (6-3-1, 2.15 GAA, .919 save percentage), who has been red-hot. Jordan Binnington (4-5-2, 3.21 GAA, .873 save percentage) has been way less impressive.

And, let’s roll with the Under based on the series trends and the inability of St. Louis to light the lamp lately. Those offensive struggles are likely to continue against Vladar, too.

  • Flyers ML (+120 at Bet365 and DraftKings Sportsbooks)
  • Under 5.5 Goals (-104 at BetRivers Sportsbook)
