The City of Phoenix will host its second annual 602 Day on Monday, June 2, with dozens of businesses and city departments participating in a celebration of local pride centered around the city’s historic area code.
The day, established in 2024 to coincide with the numerical date 6/02, honors the original 602 area code, which has been associated with Phoenix since 1947. Local officials say the event is designed to spotlight the city’s unique identity, support small businesses, and bring the community together.
“602 Day is a celebration of Phoenix’s unique identity and community spirit,” said Ashley Patton, deputy communications director for the city. “We’re excited to see residents and businesses come together again to showcase what makes our city special.”
More than 100 businesses are offering $6.02-themed promotions, including discounted admission, food and drink specials, and exclusive giveaways. Notable deals include:
-
$6.02 admission to the Arizona Science Center and Desert Botanical Garden
-
$6.02 entry to the Phoenix Zoo, opening early at 6:02 a.m.
-
Free shakes with purchase at Aioli Gourmet Burgers
-
Specialty cocktails and flash tattoos at Moxy Phoenix Downtown
-
Two cupcakes for $6.02 at Red Velvet Bakery
-
A local vendor pop-up market at Phoenix Beer Co. from noon to 5 p.m.
City departments are also getting involved. The Parks and Recreation Department will distribute free 602 Day T-shirts and water safety information at select city pools. Phoenix Public Library branches will offer bookmarks and reading activities themed around the event.
Senior centers will host a range of activities, including a Memory Café event at Desert West and an essay contest at Paradise Valley encouraging residents to share their favorite local memories tied to the 602 area code.
Officials encourage residents to explore events throughout the city and support neighborhood businesses. A full list of participating vendors and activities is available at phoenix.gov/602Day.
