PLYMOUTH, Ind. (WNDU) – Downtown Plymouth is gearing up for a weekend celebration filled with food, music and cultural heritage as the annual Latino Fest takes over River Park Square on Saturday, September 12.
Now organized by the local non-profit La Voz Unida (United Voice), this year’s festival is expected to draw around 3,000 visitors to the heart of Marshall County.
For local business owners and vendors, the event offers a rare and meaningful opportunity to come together and highlight Hispanic culture in a city where nearly a quarter of the population identifies as Hispanic or Latino.
“It means so much to have Latino Festival going on to represent our culture, our joy, our alegría, our community,” said Maria Gonzalez, co-owner of Alegría Campestre. “There isn’t a lot for Latino festivals. I know if they do have them, they are all on the same day.”
A central attraction of the festival is the wide variety of authentic cuisine.
“Fantastic tacos, food trucks — we got tortillas, we got burritos, we got everything you can think of,” said Ed Rodriguez, a member of the Plymouth Latino Festival organizing committee.
Gonzalez encouraged families across the region to come out and experience the celebration firsthand.
“Try some authentic Mexican food. Bring the family, the kids, and have a good time,” she said.
Plymouth Latino Fest runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at River Park Square. Admission is open to the public.
