NEW YORK CITY (TND) — Pro-Palestine vandals defaced the homes of several leaders of a New York City museum Tuesday night.

The vandals spread red paint on the entrance of a home belonging to Brooklyn Museum Director Anne Pasternak, topped off with an upside down red triangle – a symbol of Palestinian opposition to the Israel-Hamas war.

The unknown group of vandals also spray-painted “blood on your hands” on the ground and strung up a banner accusing Pasternak of being a “white supremacist Zionist” who funds genocide. The New York City Police Department is investigating the vandalism. New York City Mayor Eric Adams called it “overt, unacceptable antisemitism.”

This is not peaceful protest or free speech. This is a crime,” he wrote on X. “These actions will never be tolerated in New York City for any reason. I’m sorry to Anne Pasternak and members of @brooklynmuseum’s board who woke up to hatred like this. The NYPD is investigating and will bring the criminals responsible here to justice.”

New York Assemblymember Robert Carroll called the protesters “vile,” adding that while people are free to protest and debate, the incident didn’t involve either.

“Anne and the entire Brooklyn Museum board and staff have created a vibrant and welcoming place,” he said. “The actions taken by these vandals is repugnant.”

The protesters echoed a demonstration at the museum earlier this month urging Pasternak to pull her investments. Some demonstrators set up tents and banners inside it while others waved Palestinian flags and clashed with police outside.

The Brooklyn Museum did not immediately return The National Desk’s request for comment.

Protesters in New York City have loudly opposed Israel during various demonstrations since October 7. On Monday, demonstrators gathered outside a memorial for the Nova Music Festival, where Hamas killed hundreds of people. They shined a red light onto the building housing it while waving Palestinian flags. Some knocked down barriers.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul denounced the protest.
