Rick Alberty: Executive director doubles ChamberSOUTH’s members

When Rick Alberty took over as executive director of ChamberSOUTH in September 2024, he inherited an organization with a storied 60-year history – but one that was ready for fresh leadership and renewed momentum.

In less than a year, Mr. Alberty has helped revive and expand the chamber, which serves the diverse business community across Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, South Miami, Cutler Bay and greater Kendall. Under his direction, active membership has more than doubled, growing from 100 to over 250, thanks to new programming, expanded outreach and Mr. Alberty’s grassroots approach to member engagement.

Mr. Alberty brings a wealth of business experience to the role. Born in Cuba and raised in Hialeah, he was part of the first graduating class at Hialeah Miami Lakes High School. He spent two decades in management at UPS, later shifting into logistics, international operations and even helping to turn around a high-end men’s salon in Coral Gables – an experience that introduced him to the power of chambers of commerce in boosting business visibility.

At ChamberSOUTH, Mr. Alberty has worked quickly to implement change. He has launched five new committees, added eight board members (bringing the board to 21), reduced membership fees and introduced more frequent multi-organization networking events. His focus remains on ensuring equitable opportunities for members across the chamber’s broad footprint, supporting businesses of all sizes and sectors.

With a lean staff – just himself, a full-time operations manager and a part-time marketing coordinator – he credits the chamber’s active board and committed membership with driving its growth.

Looking ahead, Mr. Alberty envisions ChamberSOUTH continuing to serve as a vital platform for connection, growth and collaboration, helping businesses across South Miami-Dade thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape.

Mr. Alberty spoke with Miami Today reporter Genevieve Bowen.
