Rivals Camp Series: Position MVPs from Atlanta

RIVERDALE, Ga. — The Rivals Camp Series made its annual stop in Atlanta on Sunday and many top prospects put together impressive performances. Here is a breakdown of the MVPs from the event:

QUARTERBACK: Jayce Johnson

Johnson captured MVP honors in a stacked field of passers from the Southeast competing in Atlanta. Johnson throws with torque and is extremely accurate — throwing short and intermediate passes and also attacking downfield. The four-star prospect layered throws and was able to balance his touch with his fastball, and was consistently placing the ball anywhere he wanted on the field Sunday.

RUNNING BACK: Andrew Beard

Andrew Beard

Beard upped his stock in a big way by earning MVP honors on Sunday. Beard was exceptional catching the football out of the backfield and was routing up opposing linebackers, who struggled to keep pace with speed and quick cuts. The four-star prospect is a three-down playmaker and proved as much in Sunday’s camp setting.

RECEIVER/TIGHT END: Kaiden Prothro

Kaiden Prothro

Prothro was nearly unguardable and won MVP in a highly-competitive field of pass-catchers. The four-star standout has elite hands and is a mismatch working outside the numbers and also in the middle of the field. We love his catch radius, his ability to play above the rim and the competitiveness to win on contested balls and dominate in the red zone.

OFFENSIVE LINE: Gabriel Osenda

Gabriel Osenda

Osenda saw reps on both the left and right tackle spots and was equally as dynamic in both spots. At 330 pounds, the Tennessee verbal played with excellent bend and feet, used leverage and finished at the end of reps. Osenda has made drastic leaps and bounds with his technique, and it showed with a statement performance against a strong field of defensive linemen on Sunday. He’s a stock-up prospect as a premium position.

DEFENSIVE LINE: JaReylan McCoy

JaReylan McCoy

McCoy gave opposing tackles fits all day rushing from a two-point stance and also with a hand in the dirt. The Mississippi blue-chipper has length and can win with either speed or power, and continues to build up an array of pass-rush moves to keep tackles off-balance. McCoy had some of the best reps of Sunday’s camp at the DL position.

LINEBACKER: Duyon Forkpa Jr.

Duyon Forkpa

Forkpa was a talented hybrid rush linebacker that won reps with speed, then made his money working out at linebacker in the skill-position session in the afternoon. The four-star prospect is a three-down player that can drop back into coverage, is a stout run defender, and showed his ability to put pressure on the QB on third downs. We loved his traits and instincts in coverage — with rare ability to keep pace and cover backs in space.

DEFENSIVE BACK: Jayden Aparicio-Bailey

Jayden Aparicio-Bailey

Aparicio-Bailey won reps playing in press and playing off. He was sound rotating and flipping his hips, sticky in coverage and aggressive making plays on the football in the air. Our first live eval of Aparicio-Bailey was through the roof — as a defensive back capable of playing cornerback, safety or nickel. He was consistently great in coverage all of Sunday.
