As the Scots continue to drink through Boston’s beer supply while celebrating the World Cup this month, a pair of Patriots legends returned to the Commonwealth to take part in the festivities.

Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski certainly aren’t strangers to a party atmosphere in Boston and Foxborough. The Patriots legends won three Super Bowls in New England, followed by three massive parades through the city.

They compared this week of World Cup partying to their iconic celebration after Super Bowl 49, the pair’s first championship parade.

“We heard that they drank Boston under the table,” Edelman said.

“This is the second time in 12 years that the city of Boston has been drank dry,” Gronkowski added. “Congratulations to the Scotland army, the Tartan Army, they are absolutely fabulous. They are sloppy, but a respected sloppy fanbase, they’re great people.”

Edelman and Gronkowski both work as NFL analysts on FOX, the same network broadcasting this year’s World Cup, so it made sense to bring the fan favorites back to Boston for coverage.

Fan Fest on the Boston Common allowed fans — mostly Scots — an alternative way to watch Scotland’s match against Morocco without being in attendance in Foxborough. The event was a big hit, drawing in an approximate crowd of 15,000 fans.

Bars in Boston haven’t been able to keep up with the uptick in beer consumption, with multiple places running out of some or all of their draft beer selections courtesy of the thirsty Scots.

Edelman and Gronkowski didn’t just report on the event, either. They took part in it. Edelman was seen walking with the Tartan Army, donning face paint and a kilt to match the marching Scots. Gronkowski followed suit, taking plenty of pictures with fans along the way.

The Scots will be hoping for a win on Friday to clinch a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament. Kick off vs. Morocco is set for 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
