RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – City permits for a Rutland man’s backyard cannabis growing operation have been overturned.
Frederick Watkins was attempting to grow the new business in a 1,000-square-foot garage-like building in the backyard of his East Washington Street home. But neighbors on nearby Butterfly Avenue filed appeals over the approved zoning permits, saying the grow operation wasn’t a good fit for the residential neighborhood.
The Rutland Development Review Board on Wednesday overturned the permit, but not over the cannabis issue. They said Watkins’ structure was too large.
